The latest Civil Roundtable – How can we fix Macau’s traffic problem, organized by Macau Civil Power, was held on the 25th of January. Based on the recently released document “General Policy Framework for Transit and Land Transportation in Macau”, members of Civil Power and general public from all disciplines have keenly voiced their concerns and comments on the transportation system in Macau.

During the two hours seminar, participants have raised a number of comments and doubts on the assumptions and recommendations presented in the document. Specifically, discussion was zeroed in on how different factors such as the deep-rooted travel habit of Macau residents, vehicle control, population growth, urban planning, integration with adjacent regions, political policies from China, travel habits of tourists, and aging of the current public transit system, would interact with each other and impact the public transportation system as a whole.

As a NGO, Macau Civil Power is eager to participate in the public consultation process. As a result, comments and opinions raised during the roundtable talk will be summarized and submitted to the concerned government bodies for feedback purpose.
